The Newfoundland Bowel Health Test is a rapid at-home FIT (Faecal Immunochemical Test) that checks for
hidden blood in stool — an early warning sign of bowel cancer or polyps. Results in about 5 minutes.
For human use only.
Screens for occult (hidden) blood in a stool sample. Consider testing if you have:
A positive result means blood was detected and you should speak to your GP — further tests (often colonoscopy) may be needed.
Unlike old guaiac cards, FIT typically needs no dietary restrictions. Follow the kit leaflet.
This is a screening aid. A positive result must be followed up by a clinician. A negative result does not rule out disease if symptoms persist.
Do I need to change my diet beforehand?
No. FIT does not require dietary restrictions (unlike older guaiac tests).
What if I’m on my period?
Wait until bleeding has stopped to avoid contaminating the sample.
My test is positive — what next?
Contact your GP. They may arrange a lab FIT and/or colonoscopy to find the source of bleeding.
