Almus Aspirin 75 mg Gastro-Resistant Tablets

Low-dose aspirin 75 mg in a gastro-resistant (enteric-coated) tablet for
anti-platelet use. Intended for adults who have been advised by a doctor to take daily aspirin
for prevention of blood clots (e.g., after heart attack, stroke, angina, stents). Not for pain relief.

Active & Excipients

Active (per tablet): Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) 75 mg.

Key excipients: lactose (check intolerance), maize starch, methacrylic acid copolymer (enteric coat), talc, triethyl citrate. (See pack leaflet for full list.)

What It’s For

  • Secondary prevention of thrombotic cardiovascular events (as directed by a clinician): previous MI, ischaemic stroke/TIA, stable/unstable angina, post-PCI or CABG, peripheral arterial disease.
  • Do not self-start for “primary prevention”. Speak to your GP or pharmacist.

Directions for Use

  • Adults: Usual dose 75–150 mg once daily as advised by your prescriber (most take 75 mg once daily).
  • How to take: Swallow whole with water. Do not crush, break or chew (protective coating).
  • Take at the same time each day, with or after food if you’re prone to indigestion.
  • If you miss a dose, take it when remembered that day; otherwise skip. Do not double up.

Do Not Use If

  • Under 16 years (risk of Reye’s syndrome).
  • Allergic to aspirin/NSAIDs or have a history of asthma, wheeze, rhinitis or hives triggered by them.
  • Current or past stomach/duodenal ulcer, GI bleeding, or bleeding disorders.
  • Last 3 months of pregnancy. Avoid in pregnancy unless specifically advised by a specialist.
  • Severe kidney, liver or heart failure.

Talk to Your Pharmacist/Doctor Before Use

  • History of dyspepsia, gastritis, reflux, or you drink alcohol regularly.
  • On a PPI (e.g., omeprazole) — often recommended to protect the stomach with long-term aspirin.
  • Gout (low-dose aspirin can raise uric acid).
  • Pregnant/planning pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Interactions (Check Medicines)

  • Anticoagulants/antiplatelets: warfarin, DOACs, clopidogrel, ticagrelor (↑ bleeding risk).
  • Other NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen) and steroids (↑ GI risk). If ibuprofen is essential, dose it at least 8 hours before or 30 minutes after immediate-release aspirin; avoid routine combination.
  • SSRIs/SNRIs, spironolactone, methotrexate (especially ≥15 mg/week), lithium, many others — seek advice.
  • Herbals that affect clotting (ginkgo, high-dose fish oils, garlic) — caution.

Possible Side Effects

  • Common: indigestion, heartburn, nausea.
  • Bleeding/bruising: nosebleeds, gum bleeding, black stools or blood-streaked vomit — seek medical help.
  • Allergy: rash, wheeze, facial/lip swelling — stop and get urgent help.
  • Very rare: GI ulceration/bleed, haemorrhagic stroke (risk higher with interacting drugs or heavy alcohol use).

Helpful Info

  • Enteric coating reduces gastric irritation but does not eliminate ulcer/bleed risk.
  • Report any unexplained bruising or bleeding.
  • Carry a medicines list; tell clinicians you’re taking daily aspirin before procedures or new prescriptions.
  • Store below 25 °C, in original packaging. Keep out of sight and reach of children.
