Clairette is a combined oral contraceptive pill (‘the Pill’) used to prevent pregnancy and treat acne. It contains two types of female sex hormones: oestrogen (ethinylestradiol) and cyproterone acetate, a progestogen with anti-androgen properties. These hormones work together to prevent pregnancy by inhibiting ovulation, thickening cervical mucus to hinder sperm movement, and altering the uterine lining to prevent implantation. Additionally, the anti-androgenic properties of cyproterone acetate help reduce acne by blocking hormones that cause acne.Â
