Stomach Ulcer Self Test by Newfoundland

The Newfoundland Stomach Ulcer Self-Test is a rapid, at-home diagnostic test that detects
Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) antigens in a stool sample.
H. pylori infection is a leading cause of stomach ulcers and gastritis.
Results are ready in around 10 minutes — no blood sample required.
For human use only.

What’s in the Kit

  • Test cassette (lateral flow immunoassay)
  • Sample collection tube with buffer solution
  • Disposable stool collection paper / catcher
  • Instructions for use

What It’s For

This test helps identify an active H. pylori infection, which may cause:

  • Persistent stomach discomfort or burning pain
  • Bloating, nausea, or indigestion
  • Poor appetite or unexpected weight loss

If the result is positive, consult your GP or pharmacist to discuss treatment. A negative result with ongoing symptoms still warrants medical advice.

Directions for Use

  • Adults (18+): Read the full leaflet before testing.
  • For accuracy: Avoid PPIs for 2 weeks and antibiotics or bismuth for 4 weeks before testing — these may give false negatives. Ask your GP before stopping any prescribed medicine.
  • Collect a small stool sample using the catcher provided. Do not contaminate with urine or water.
  • Mix the sample in the buffer tube as directed.
  • Add the drops to the cassette and wait approximately 10 minutes.
  • Read results within the time window shown in the leaflet:
    • Two lines = Positive
    • One line (Control only) = Negative
    • No Control line = Invalid (repeat with new test)

Precautions & Warnings

  • For human in-vitro diagnostic use only. Not for veterinary use.
  • Single-use only — do not reuse any part.
  • Do not use after the expiry date or if the foil pouch is damaged.
  • Store at room temperature in a dry place.
  • If you are under 18, pregnant, breastfeeding, or have severe symptoms (bleeding, unexplained weight loss, persistent vomiting), seek medical advice before use.

Performance & Helpful Info

  • Detects active H. pylori infection via stool antigen.
  • Results in about 10 minutes.
  • Test accuracy typically around 97–98% (according to manufacturer data).
  • CE-marked for home use.

This test aids screening and should be followed up with medical evaluation for confirmation and treatment if positive.

FAQs

Can medicines affect my result?
Yes. Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), antibiotics, and bismuth compounds can affect accuracy. Follow washout advice before testing.

Can this be used on pets?
No. This test is validated for human use only.

What should I do if positive?
Speak to your GP. Treatment usually involves antibiotics and acid suppression therapy, followed by repeat testing after recovery.
