Vaginal Infection Test Kit by Newfoundland

The Newfoundland Vaginal Infection Test Kit is a simple, at-home self-test that helps identify whether symptoms such as discharge, odour, or irritation are caused by a bacterial or yeast (fungal) infection.
The test works by measuring the vaginal pH level — changes in pH can indicate bacterial vaginosis (BV) or trichomoniasis, while normal pH levels are usually associated with thrush (candida).
Results appear within 30 seconds and can help guide whether over-the-counter treatment or medical advice is appropriate.

What’s in the Kit

  • Test swab with integrated pH indicator strip
  • Colour comparison chart for result interpretation
  • Instructions for use

What It’s For

This test helps you identify possible causes of vaginal discomfort and abnormal discharge by checking the vaginal pH. It can be useful if you experience:

  • Unusual discharge (change in colour, texture, or smell)
  • Itching, burning, or irritation
  • Fishy odour or discomfort after sex

Use the results to decide whether self-treatment for thrush is suitable or if you should see your GP or pharmacist for further testing.

Directions for Use

  • Wash your hands thoroughly before testing.
  • Remove the swab from the packaging without touching the pH tip.
  • Gently insert the yellow tip about 2–3 cm into the vagina, avoiding contact with the cervix.
  • Hold for a few seconds to absorb vaginal fluid, then remove the swab.
  • Compare the colour of the tip to the chart provided within 30 seconds:
    • Yellow/Light Green (pH 3.8–4.5): Normal — likely yeast infection (thrush).
    • Green–Blue (pH > 4.5): Abnormal — may indicate bacterial vaginosis or trichomoniasis.
  • Use results as guidance only. If abnormal, consult a healthcare professional.

Precautions & Warnings

  • For vaginal pH testing in women only. Not for internal medical diagnosis.
  • Do not use during menstruation or within 24 hours of sexual intercourse, vaginal creams, or douching — this may affect accuracy.
  • Single-use only. Dispose of swab safely after testing.
  • Do not use after expiry date or if packaging is damaged.
  • If you are pregnant, under 18, have pelvic pain, fever, or blood-stained discharge, seek medical advice before testing.
