NuvaRing Contraceptive Vaginal Ring

£38.99

NuvaRing is a combined hormonal contraceptive device designed to prevent pregnancy. It is a small, flexible vaginal ring that releases a continuous, controlled dose of two female sex hormones: oestrogen (ethinylestradiol) and progestogen (etonogestrel). These hormones work together to inhibit ovulation, thicken cervical mucus to hinder sperm movement, and alter the uterine lining to prevent implantation.

How Does It Work?

NuvaRing prevents pregnancy through three primary mechanisms:

  • Inhibition of Ovulation: Prevents the release of an egg from the ovaries.

  • Thickening of Cervical Mucus: Makes it more difficult for sperm to enter the womb.

  • Alteration of the Uterine Lining: Reduces the likelihood of implantation of a fertilized egg.

When used correctly, NuvaRing is up to 99% effective in preventing pregnancy.

How Long Does NuvaRing Take to Work?

  • Starting on Day 1 of Your Period: If you insert NuvaRing on the first day of your period, you will be protected from pregnancy immediately.

  • Starting at Any Other Time: If you start using NuvaRing at any other point in your cycle, you should use additional contraception (such as condoms) for the first 7 days.

If switching from another hormonal contraceptive method, follow your doctor's guidance to ensure continuous protection.

Standard Method:

  • Insertion: Insert one NuvaRing into the vagina and leave it in place for 21 consecutive days.

  • 7-Day Break: After 21 days, remove the ring and take a 7-day break during which you may experience a withdrawal bleed.

  • Next Ring: Insert a new ring immediately after the 7-day break, even if your bleeding hasn't stopped.

Administration Tips:

  • Consistency: Insert and remove the ring on the same day of the week and at the same time to maintain effectiveness.

  • Expulsion: If the ring is expelled or removed for more than 3 hours, rinse it with cool to lukewarm water and reinsert it as soon as possible. Use additional contraception for the next 7 days.

Benefits of Using NuvaRing

  • Convenience: Requires attention only twice a month (insertion and removal).
  • Regulates Periods: Provides a predictable menstrual cycle.
  • Reduces Period Pain: Can alleviate menstrual cramps.
  • Improves Acne: May lead to clearer skin.
  • Manages PMS Symptoms: Helps control premenstrual syndrome.
